Connecticut Day of Caring & Compassion 2009
15 fire stations around Connecticut will serve as collection centers for donations of non-perishable food to help replenish the state’s two main food pantries on the statewide “Day of Caring & Compassion” Saturday, November 7. “November 7 will be a one-day push to fill – and I mean really fill – the shelves of Foodshare and Connecticut Food Bank ahead of the coming holidays,” Governor Rell said at a news conference at the Torrington Fire Department. “Working with fire departments in every corner of the state, our goal is to collect as much non-perishable food as possible. Foodshare and the Connecticut Food Bank will organize pick-ups from the fire stations later in the day – and from there it will go to food pantries and people in need all across Connecticut.

10th Annual CT Veterans Day Parade!!

Stay overnight at Mystic Aquarium - Sleep with the Fishes
Ever wonder what Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration’s animals do at night? Find out on November 13, during the aquarium’s Family Overnight – now featuring an aquarium mystery to solve. A bucket of fish is missing, with only a puddle of water, footprints, fingerprints and some feathers left behind as evidence. Using water sampling, fingerprint and footprint identification methods and feather samples, kids will determine who is responsible for the disappearance of the fish. Guests will also play games and tour the exhibits. Afterward, pick a place to sleep next to the circling sharks, colorful clownfish or even the elusive octopus. Continental breakfast is provided the next morning. Crafts and activities are geared toward children ages 5 to 12. Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by a paid adult. Guests should bring a sleeping bag, pillow and flashlight. Preregistration is required.

Backstage tour of the Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk

Basketball: Connecticut 6 Classic At Arena at Harbor Yard, Bridgeport, CT
State college basketball fans will converge on the city of Bridgeport on November 13 for the first Connecticut 6 Classic, a men’s basketball tripleheader. OneThing Green Conservation Expo This Weekend October 10 -12 2008




This weekend
October 10-12, 2008, the Connecticut Convention Center will host a dazzling, three-day event, the OneThing Expo: Home of a Million OneThings. The expo will highlight the endless variety of OneThings that schools, businesses and residents can do to save energy and protect the environment.

Conceived as a "World's Fair of Energy Conservation," and part of Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell's OneThing campaign, the OneThing Expo will be an engaging exploration of energy topics and an unforgettable celebration of conservation. The story will be told in bright detail by hundreds of individuals and organizations across the state - and the country - representing a myriad of industries and topics, including agriculture, recreation, transportation, building technology, the arts and education, alternative energy, consumer products and much more. More than 250 exhibitors and thousands of visitors from Maine to Maryland are expected to take part.

A Day for Schools and Businesses What's the Deal ... OneThing "What's the Deal Registration form" This focused business-to-business event and trade show in the Grand Ballroom/Upper Level of the Connecticut Convention Center is designed as Connecticut's largest business energy conference. The day will feature more than 40 exhibitors, 600+ attendees, and a series of panel discussions and keynote speaker presentations from some of the region's most well-known energy/business industry experts. The event is presented by the Connecticut Business & Industry Association, the Connecticut Power and Energy Society and the Office of Policy and Management.

The Palooza! also will showcase dozens of statewide community partners, special energy conservation programming and performances, and short films on conservation and climate change at the Connecticut Science Center Climate Change Theater. The OneThing Palooza! is being designed by the Connecticut Science Center and Norwalk-based Stepping Stones Museum for Children. The Palooza! will be open throughout the three-day Expo.

Open Cockpit Sundays at the New England Air Museum
Climb into the cockpits of up to 12 vintage aircraft, a full-motion flight simulator and two static flight simulators.
The aircraft to be open include the famous Vought Corsair of WWII, the North American F-100 Super Sabre, a DC-3 airliner, several helicopters and more. There will be additional special exhibits and demonstrations and different hands-on activities for children will be offered each month. For the convenience of all, a food vendor will be on site at each event serving sandwiches, snacks and hot & cold beverages.

A possessed tractor-drawn hay wagon leads visitors into the deep, dark, demented woods of Scary Old SayBrOOk.
