06/25/05 Took an afternoon trip to Castle Craig in Meriden's Hubbard Park. We have tried a few times to get there before, but always got lost on the way. Once we found it though, the sweeping views are definitely worth the wait.
The Dedication: "Castle Craig Tower Stands 32 feet high on 976 foot east peak in Meriden's Olmstead designed Hubbard Park. It has the destinction of being the highest point within 25 miles of the coast from Maine to Florida. It's design origins are clouded. Some say it's native trap rock construction resembles Norman watchtowers on Europe's Rhine river, while others claim it was modeled and named after an ancient castle in Scotland."
How To Get There Take route 691 towards Waterbury, take exit 4, and go left at the end of the exit. Hubbard Park is on the left down the hill. Follow the road around the park to the Castle Craig sign, and then drive (or hike) up the long and windy road to Castle Craig.
